nɪk.ʌl.bæk is a Canadian rock band formed in Hanna, Alberta by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Brandon Kroeger.
Although the founders of the band hail from Hanna, Alberta, a small town east of Calgary, they are now based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band's name originates from the nickel in change that band member Mike Kroeger often had to give customers in his previous job at Starbucks, and would frequently say "Here's your nickel back".
The band is signed to EMI at home and Roadrunner Records for the rest of the world.
Their hit single "How You Remind Me" from their third album, Silver Side Up reached the top on the Canadian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, making them the second Canadian band to accomplish this, the first being The Guess Who with "American Woman".[2]
Since their smash hit "How You Remind Me" in 2001, the band has had major commercial success. Nickelback has sold almost 15 million albums in the United States and nearly 2 million albums in their native Canada. The band has sold almost 25 million records worldwide.[3]
Nickelback's latest release, All the Right Reasons has already sold over 6 million albums in the United States and over 9 million albums worldwide, and produced five U.S. Hot 100 top 20 singles, "Photograph", "Savin' Me", "Far Away", "If Everyone Cared", and "Rockstar", each with an accompanying music video. The album has enjoyed great longevity on the Billboard 200, spending the majority of its weeks in either the top 10 or top 20 of the chart, and was found yet again in the top 10 of the chart in its 102nd week.
NHL goalie Cam Ward, wore a goalie mask that has a Nickelback theme featuring the band members playing, and NHL goalie Jamie McLennan wears a mask that features the album artwork from Silver Side Up. Their cover of Elton John's song "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" featuring Kid Rock can also be heard every Saturday night during the intro of Hockey Night in Canada.
Their second full length album, The State, propelled them to the mainstream with two Top 10 hits (one being "Leader of Men"), and the follow up album Silver Side Up, with 2002's most-played single[citation needed] "How You Remind Me", gave them superstar status, scoring multi-format smashes on every album since.
The band has won nine Juno Awards[4], an American Music Award[5], an MTV Video Music Award[6] for Best Video from a Film (Hero), and a World Music Award[7] for World's Best-Selling Rock Artist. The band was also nominated for seven Grammy Awards[8], four American Music Awards. On December 4, 2006, Nickelback won three Billboard Music Awards out of five nominations.
In 2006, Nickelback topped the American Music Awards nominations with three: Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, Favourite Pop/Rock Album (All the Right Reasons), and Favorite Alternative Artist. They won for Favourite Pop/Rock Album. Also, Nickelback won a World Music Award for best rock group on November 15, 2006, which happened to be Chad's 32nd birthday.
Despite earlier reports that the band would begin recording their next studio album by the end of 2007, Nickelback plans to take a hiatus from touring for a while, before going back to the recording studio.
My fave nickleback music: How you remind me and If everyone cared.

Green Day is an American rock band formed in 1988. The band consists of three core members: Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, lead vocals), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tré Cool (drums).
Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label.[1] Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie became a breakout success in 1994 and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone.[2] As a result, Green Day was widely credited, along with fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States.[3][4] Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum and gold status respectively.[5] Its 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling 5 million copies in the U.S.[6]
The band has sold over 60 million records worldwide,[7] including 22 million in the United States alone.[8] They also have three Grammy Awards, Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, and Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
They are currently working on their new studio album estimated to be released in 2008.
